Liberty South Unit Release Routes

Florida Department of Corrections records control the public release path for Liberty South Unit. A person can leave the satellite for the main Liberty Correctional Institution, another FDC prison, a community-release setting, sentence expiration, conditional release, parole where legally available, or another authority named by a detainer. Moving between FDC locations keeps the prison term open. It is not the same as release from state custody.

Read the person's current facility, sentence rows, detainers, and incarceration history together. An open custody period tied to a different prison shows reassignment. A past out-custody date in Inmate Release is stronger proof that the FDC confinement episode ended. If Supervised Population also returns the same DC number, secure prison custody has ended but state supervision continues. The sentencing court record can explain the term and any later amendment.

Confirm a South Unit Release

Use the FDC offender-search menu. It separates current inmates, inmate releases, supervised people, absconders, and escapes. This division prevents a common error: searching only the active prison population after someone has left. The six-character DC number is the best key because names and aliases can match more than one record.

1. Open Inmate Release Information and enter the DC number. If it is unknown, search by first and last name and enable aliases.
2. Match the person by birth date, photograph, race, sex, sentence county, and case number. Identity checks matter before interpreting a date.
3. Read the release date and incarceration history. A future release entry remains scheduled, while a completed out-custody entry records a past event.
4. Search Supervised Population with the same DC number. Review the type, current location, start, and termination fields.
5. When the record shows another facility or authority, use that custodian's current record. Do not label the movement as community release.

FDC says release data updates nightly. Current inmate information is generally refreshed weekly, with release dates and location changes updated nightly. Liberty South Release Records

FDC's Inmate Release detail can show the DC number, name, race, sex, date of birth, release date, photograph, aliases, sentence history, detainers, and incarceration periods. The sentence history may include offense date, abbreviated offense, sentence date, county, case number, and term. This state record does not prove that a person was held only at South Unit for the full episode. Facility assignments can change while the same incarceration period remains open.

A future date in the release database is not actual release proof because FDC includes people scheduled to leave. A completed out-custody date is more useful. The Supervised Population record then answers whether probation, parole, conditional release, community control, or another FDC status continues. An expired termination date should be checked against the latest detail or supervising office when current status matters.

Transfer

A move between custodians or facilities while confinement continues.

Tentative release date

The projected date shaped by sentence credit and gain-time rules.

Detainer

A request or notice tied to another authority's custody interest.

Note: The unit name helps trace location, but the statewide incarceration period and out-custody history establish the release event.

South Unit Record Contacts

FDC's official Liberty institution listing names Liberty South Unit as a satellite but does not publish a separate street address, direct phone number, unit-only capacity, or stand-alone facility page. Those facts must not be borrowed from the main institution or from Quincy Annex. Quincy Annex is in Gadsden County and does not become a Liberty County facility because older material associated it administratively with Liberty C.I.

Identify the person by name and DC number. Ask for the release-status record, incarceration history, facility-assignment history if maintained and releasable, and the most recent releasable identification photograph. FDC may redact medical, investigative, victim, safety, and other exempt information. South Unit Projected Release

A person currently assigned to Liberty South Unit may show a `Current Release Date` on the FDC active-inmate detail. Florida's gain-time statute calls the computed projection a tentative release date. The public screen warns that gain-time award, forfeiture, and review can change it. A `TO BE SET` value means the public record does not yet provide a calculated date.

Florida Statutes § 944.275 directs FDC to calculate a maximum sentence expiration date and a tentative release date after lawful credit and gain-time changes. For many people in the post-October 1995 incentive tier, gain-time cannot produce release before service of at least 85 percent of the sentence. That short description is not a promise. Offense date, mandatory terms, credit, detainers, added sentences, court amendments, gain-time eligibility, discipline, and other lawful mechanisms can change the result.

South Unit Post-Release Supervision

A completed Liberty South Unit prison release can lead to continued community supervision. Probation comes from a court sentence. Parole applies only within Florida's limited older eligibility framework. Conditional release is a statutory post-prison status for qualifying cases. Community control is a more intensive court-ordered status. Each can place the person outside secure prison while legal conditions remain in force.

Search FDC Supervised Population by DC number. Verify the current status and current location, because assignment data can change and an entry may use `Active Suspense` when the person is temporarily unavailable for direct community supervision due to jail or another facility. If the person no longer reports and the official record supports the concern, the separate Absconder/Fugitive search may show a supervision issue. An absconder entry does not erase the earlier prison release.

Liberty South Unit is an FDC satellite associated with Liberty Correctional Institution. It is a state-prison unit, not a Liberty County Sheriff's Office jail and not a public recent-release feed. FDC publishes the unit name through the Liberty institution listing but gives no separate public location or contact details. Accuracy therefore requires restraint: use the statewide person record for custody and release, and use FDC offices for information not shown there.

The distinction also protects against mixing three nearby names. Liberty County Jail handles local pretrial and short-term custody. Liberty Correctional Institution is the main FDC prison. Liberty South Unit is its named satellite. A county jail transfer into FDC begins a state custody record, while a move between the main prison and South Unit remains inside the same statewide system. Only a completed state out-custody event supports an FDC release finding.

No unit-only population figure was published. The combined capacity on the main institution page should not be reassigned to South Unit, just as the main prison's street address and phone should not be presented as separate satellite facts. When a public detail identifies the unit, preserve that wording. When it does not, avoid inferring a past assignment from the institution name alone.
